Welcome

My name is David Burrows and I am a freelance translator of Spanish into English. This blog contains some of my favourite words, a (mostly) amusing explanation of said words as well as some of my musings about translation. I hope you enjoy it.

Brouhaha

Noun - A noisy and overexcited reaction.
"I didn't want to cause a brouhaha..."

Another word that is fun to say and not used enough these days. It does sound a bit antiquated (great word) but that shouldn't deter anyone. I myself haven't used it in a long time and it was brought back to my attention from the strangest of sources: Slash! The man who used to play in Guns n Roses, has consumed more than his own body-weight in drugs and has such a high concentration of alcohol in his blood that he has to stay away from naked flames used it in his autobiography. While I can't condone his behaviour, I was really pleased to see he appreciates a good word as much as I appreciate his guitar solos. Perhaps the funniest aspect was his usage: "I didn't want to cause a brouhaha." This is coming from someone who died for eight minutes.
